Animal rescue helps bring loving pets into our homes
Animal rescues are an important part of saving the lives of our domestic pets. We feel passion, enthusiasm, mania, love, and fascination when we speak of our furry friends. It doesn’t matter what kind of positive word you choose to describe what we feel when we own a domesticated animal. The majority of Western society views pet ownership as a positive and healthy activity. Did you know that there are approximately 1.2 billion domesticated animals in the world? In actuality, I believe the number may be higher, however that is just my feeling. I think we can describe that as animal enthusiasm, don’t you? I am referring to dogs and cats only because the definition of a domestic animal varies in other cultures and countries. I have always known that the numbers are high but I never stopped to compare the statistcs to the human population of the world. There are 7.3 billion humans on this planet as of 2015. If you do the math, 1.2 billion domesticated animals are approximately 16% of the human population. I think one can only conclude that humans love dogs and cats and are passionate about their animals.
Is it a natural instinct to love our domestic animals?

It seems the love for pets is a natural instinct in many humans. Why do we have such an affinity for pet ownership? For one thing they are beautiful and therefore pleasing to look at. We are a visual society. They amuse us, become our friends when we are lonely, make us laugh, and love us unconditionally. There seems to be no limit to what we will do for an animal we love. We care for them the way we would care for other family members. Our connection with our pets is so great that we often go into extreme debt to save the life of a beloved animal. We become enraged when we learn of pet abuse or cruelty and we are quick to report any incidents of maltreatment towards animals to authorities.

This shelter is an incredible facillity that provides medical care, protection and housing for abused, abandoned, and lost domesticated pets at little or no cost? Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is one of those outstanding facilities right here in Palm Beach County. They offer a wide variety of services all designed to provide shelter and medical care to lost homeless animals. One of their primary missions is to offer affordable spaying and neutering to animals in an effort to prevent overpopulation particularly in the feline community.
During 2014 The Peggy Adams Animal League accomplished the following services
- 28,828 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies benefited from our programs and services
- 43,186 phone calls were answered by our Call Center
- 10,756 spay and neuter surgeries
- 5,345 lost, injured and homeless cats and dogs received temporary shelter
- 3,936 animals were placed into new loving homes
- 1,381 cats and dogs were cared for by our Foster Program Volunteers
- 269 lost animals were reunited with their families
- 507 animals, 70 cats and 437 dogs, were transferred to the League from Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control
- 350 active volunteers donated over 46,000 hours helping to enrich the lives of our shelter animals and to ensure that the League achieves our goals in serving animals and residents in our community
I was so impressed with the non-profit that I invited Kim to visit with us on Never Say Impossible Radio. I was overwhelmed and deeply touched by the work being done in this shelter.
501 C3-non-profit
The shelter is completely supported by the generosity of the community and is a 501 C3. It has state of the arts medical and surgical equipment. The talented and dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Keser is always watching, supervising, and providing expert medical treatment to each and every animal. It is a well-oiled machine with volunteers willing to spend their time and affection to help find homes for these animals. Above all, it is a shelter that does not practice euthanasia.

Kim is responsible for programs working with leadership gifts and legacy gifts to this 90-year old animal rescue agency.
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is a limited-admission humane society and provides services to over 30,000 cats, dogs, puppies and kittens each year. Operating continuously since 1925, we have been positively impacting animal welfare and addressing overpopulation in Palm Beach County through a variety of services.
Peggy Adams Animal League’s Vision is to create a community where 100% of the adoptable animals find loving homes and no animals will be euthanized because of pet overpopulation.
The Mission of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches, Incorporated is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted animals, to provide spay and neuter and other medical services for companion animals, and to care for, protect, and find quality homes for homeless and neglected companion animals, to advocate animal welfare, community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals
