Leadership is not easily defined by one word.  We all recognize an outstanding leader and their attributes immediately when we meet them.  The strange thing is that it varies from one person to another.   Most great leaders have many amazing qualities all rolled into one that makes them effective  in their leadership roles,    Today on Never Say Impossible Radio, we will be speaking to Joe Luellen and his take on leadership and the role he plays in his LinkedIn Group 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo which reaches thousands of people every day.   What makes joe an influencer?   Joe is going to share his thinking with us during the interview.

According to an article published by The Huffington Post titled ” 7 Habits of Natural Leaders “ there are more than 27,000 leadership books on Amazon.   Each book has merit and a slightly different take on leadership and how to achieve greatness as a leader.  Personally I believe that there are certain qualities that you must have to be productive in a leadership role.   Effective leaders have very unique styles and at the same time they have a great deal in common.   Just as we all look and sound different, we lead with our own personal styles.   Some young people exhibit certain qualities during their elementary education and they are often easily recognized by their instructors and placed in positions of class leadership on projects.  Whether they are instinctively natural leadership traits that develop or fade with time has a lot to do with their choice of a profession.  On the other hand, great leaders can develop over time when given the opportunity regardless of how they started out.  I have found that some people are extremely bright, but lack the skills of leadership until they catch on.   One such example is Abraham Lincoln.  When he was first appointed as a Captain to lead in The Black Hawk War, he immediately succeeded at leadership .  He learned and went on to be one of the greatest political leaders in American history.  This proves my point that not all leaders are born with these qualities.   Leadership qualities can be learned.

A few important leadership qualities:

  • A visionary and creative spirit ( seeing the bigger picture)
  • A burning desire for growth and continued information.
  • A willingness to share information and influence others effectively.
  • The ability to listen and respect other people’s opinions when different from their own.
  • A desire to solve problems.
  • The need to create change.
  • The ability to surround themselves a supportive team to assist in creating progress

Are you a leader?  Read these John Maxwell quotes before making a decision,” Leadership Ability Derermines a Person’s Level of Effectiveness.”

“The True Measure of Leadership is Influence——-Nothing More, Nothing Less.”

” Leadership Develops Daily, Not in a Day”.

One of my favorite quotes:

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
John Quincy Adams
